- March 16. 7.30pm. £3/2. The 10th Cachín Cachán Cachunga!  The gang returns to The Street (2 Picardy Place, Edinburgh) on 16 March, with another fun and unusual lineup of entertainment. Featuring Lily, Andra Simons, Hamish MacDonald, Kristiane Taylor, and Zorras with Ariadna Battich. Followed by DJ Lily, DJ Supernowoczesna and general merriment. With special thanks to Anna Urbanowska.

- March 17th. 8pm. £5. At the Roxy Art House. IRREGULAR. After three boundary-pushing and unforgettable nights last year, March sees the first IRREGULAR of 2010. Canongate’s unique literary club night is also celebrating a new home, at the fantabulous Roxy Art House. MJ HYLAND, reading from her third novel. DENISE MINA, the legendary CHRISTOPHER BROOKMYRE, local star JENNY LINDSAY, and musical entertainment from our friends The Black Diamond Express.

- March 17th-21st.  StAnza Poetry Festival 2010!  You probably know all about this by now, but if not, INFORM YO’SELF! Also, come visit us pretty please at the Poets Market this Saturday from 12-4pm.

- March 23. 7.30pm. £4/2. “DiScoMboBuLaTe where literature, comedy and the bounds of good taste collide.“  Check out Glasgow’s great spoken word/comedy night,  DiScomBoBuLate, as part of the Glasgow Comedy Festival.  This month, featuring Ryan Van Winkle, Alan Bissett, Anneliese Mackintosh, Kirstin Innes, and a host of other luminaries. The Arches, Glasgow. Tickets available here.

- March 25th-26th. McEwan Hall. this collection showcase: Thursday 10am – 5pm / Friday 7pm – 9pm. FREE, all welcome. Explore Edinburgh as you’ve never seen it before – come to a FREE poetry-film showcase extravaganza in the magnificent McEwan Hall! (See some of the films early here. Also, our kind friends at the Scottish Arts Council have asked us to tell all our friends about the upcoming deadline for their Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship 2010.  Info below. APPLY APPLY APPLY!:

Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship 2010

The Scottish Arts Council supports the Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship which offers writers the opportunity to spend up to six weeks in a self-catering studio in France. Travel and accommodation are paid for plus a grant of £300 per week which is awarded to successful writers for the duration of their stay.

Applicants must be published writers who are based in Scotland. They must be free to spend up to six weeks between June and August 2010 at Hôtel Chevillon International Arts Centre in Grez-sur-Loing.  Successful applicants will be selected on the basis of the quality of their writing and the potential benefits the residency might offer them.

Applicants must submit:

  • A completed application form
  • Up to 3,000 words of original work (in progress or recently published)
  • A statement explaining the potential benefits of the fellowship; this must be no longer than 2 sides of A4 but should provide the panel with sufficient information to help make a decision.
  • A short outline of their writing career to date.

The closing date for applications is Monday 9 April 2010
